Media release from VREB High Demand Continues as Inventory Shrinks in the Victoria Housing Market A total of 599 properties sold in the Victoria Real Estate Board region this November, 4.5 per cent more than the 573 properties sold in November last year. On Wednesday the old house sitting at 68 Government st came down as we had an excavator on site to do some of the heavy lifting. Since purchasing the house in April in a deal where my client and now friend Seamus MCKeating purchased the neighbouring Niagara Grocery building we have moved tens of tonnes of garbage from both properties. On Monday July 25th the BC government announced a new 15-per-cent extra tax on foreign buyer looking to invest in Vancouver’s red-hot housing market. Over four weeks in June and July the government tracked house purchases by foreign citizens who are not permanent residents bought over a billion dollars in real estate in BC. I think this is a good first step in solving Vancouver’s affordability issue as it will put an end to this constant flipping we are seeing.
